Known issues for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024

Backwards Compatibility (PC & Xbox Series X|S)

  • We have recently ported much of the marketplace content from Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS 2020) to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 (MSFS 2024). Recent reports from the community show that some 3rd party add-ons are causing significant issues, including preventing some users from entering the simulator. Until we identify which content is causing these issues, we will temporarily deactivate all MSFS 2020 non-aircraft content from MSFS 2024.

As part of the patch planned for the week of Dec 9th, we will add the ability for users to disable/enable content on their own. We will also add a safe boot option to deactivate 3rd party content in case of a crash when booting up the simulator.

Xbox Series X|S

  • The sim may become unresponsive or can even crash when using certain large aircraft (e.g. Airbus 330-743 Beluga XL, Airbus A400M, Boeing 747 8, etc.) near large custom airports (e.g. KLAX, LFPG), KJFK, etc.).
We are currently working on a fix that we hope to roll out soon.
  • Freelook moves really fast when using a mouse on Xbox
    • This issue is logged in our internal bug tracker and is being investigated
  • The sim becomes unresponsive when invoking the Guide on the Ready to Fly screen and while in active flight.
    • Workaround: Press the (default) A button to enter active gameplay, press the (default) Menu button to pause gameplay, then select Resume and the sim should respond to input as normal.

2024 Additional content not showing up

  • If you have purchased an edition other than Standard, your content won't be available on the first launch.
    • Workaround: Close the game, and launch the game again.

DX12 error message when using Radeon RX580 or lower tier GPU

  • Unfortunately, this GPU, or any GPU below this in performance, is not powerful enough to run the sim. The only way to resolve the issue is to upgrade your GPU.

Crashing issues when using CPU with more than 32 cores

  • If you are using a CPU that has more than 32 cores, the sim will crash. We are aware of this issue and it is being investigated.

    • Workaround: Disable the extra cores on your CPU to a maximum of 32 active cores and the issue should be resolved.

Unable to type in your login information when starting the simulator for the first time

  • Disconnect all connected USB devices except your mouse and keyboard

  • After you have successfully logged in, you can connect back your devices

Stuck on loading after inserting your Xbox login information on PC

Loading issues (stuck at 97% or 98%, receiving error messages that are not related to crashing)

We are aware of these issues, and they are being investigated.

  • Workaround 1: Synchronize your Time and Region settings.
  1. Press the Start button on the taskbar, type settings, and select Settings.
  2. Select Date & Time and toggle the “Set time automatically setting" and “Set time zone automatically” to ON.
  3. Click on Synchronize your clock to synchronize your system's clock with an Internet time server.
  4. Then click Region, and double-check that your country or region is correctly set up (for example if you live in Canada, make sure that the region didn't switch to USA or vice-versa)

  • Workaround 2: Move your installation folder
    • If you have installed your sim to other drive than your C:\ drive, try and move/reinstall it to your C:\ drive. We have received reports that this has resolved the issue for some users.

GOOGLE MOD CONFLICT

We have also received reports that if you ever used Google Mod in MSFS2020, it can cause loading issues in MSFS2024. If you are experiencing loading issues, we highly recommend checking to see if this mod is still making changes on your PC.

  1. Use the windows search bar and search for Notepad. Right-click and select Run as Administrator.
  2. In Notepad, go to File > Open and then navigate to Windows (C:), Windows, System32, drivers, etc
    and open the host file.
  3. Get rid of:
    127.0.0.1 kh.ssl.ak.tiles.virtualearth.net
    127.0.0.1 khstorelive.azureedge.net
  4. Save and exit

Warning: we do not recommend using any streamed map data add-on to replace Bing maps.
