Here are the reasons why you may see the message "Please insert the Microsoft Flight Simulator Game Disc."
INSERT DISC ONE TO LAUNCH THE RETAIL BOX VERSION OR CREATE AN ISO FILE
If you own the Retail Boxed version, insert Disc 1.
Disc 1 needs to be inserted at all times to check the status of your activation.
If you don't have a disc reader on your computer, you will need to create an ISO file of Microsoft Flight Simulator Disk so that you don’t need to have the physical disk inserted every time you want to start Microsoft Flight Simulator.
XBOX LIVE OUTAGE
THE KEY IS INVALID
If you purchased your key from a grey market retailer, it is possible they sent you the code inside the Boxed Version edition without sending you the discs or they sold a promotional code that has now expired. Please contact your retailer for an exchange or a refund.
POOR WIFI OR NO INTERNET CONNECTION
You must be connected to the internet in order to proceed with the installation & authentication.
If you're using Wi-Fi, switch to an LTE or wired connection. This will help ensure that you are on a stable internet connection throughout the download and installation process.
INCORRECT TIME AND LOCATION SETTINGS
Incorrect Time & Location settings or outdated credentials can prevent you from authenticating your game license. Complete our Microsoft Store - Download & Installation issues, Part I - Checklist to re-enter your credentials and ensure the Time & Language settings of your PC are correctly set up.
If your game entitlements are still missing you'll need to update or reinstall Gaming Services.
Note: Not all versions come with a separate entitlement for Digital Ownership. If Digital Ownership doesn't appear separately in your library, you can skip that step.
Make sure all the updates in the Microsoft Store are installed, including Digital Ownership and your version of Microsoft Flight Simulator and the associated bundle. To do so, complete our Microsoft Store - Download & Installation issues, Part I - Checklist.
If necessary, (re)install Digital Ownership

Temporarily disable your security program(s) before launching Microsoft Flight Simulator
False positives occur when your antivirus software incorrectly identifies safe software as malicious. If your antivirus or anti-malware falsely flagged Microsoft Flight Simulator remove the file from quarantine if necessary then whitelist Microsoft Flight Simulator. To do so follow the instructions from your manufacturer.
- Sample of Virus & malware checkers that have been known to prevent Microsoft Flight Simulator from launching:
- Trend Micro Maximum Security

- Avast & Avast Cleanup
If the sim loads normally after disabling your security program, whitelist Microsoft Flight Simulator before turning the program back on. To do so, refer to your security software's support website.
