All versions - Xbox Live Sign-In issues

Follow

The steps below are particularly useful when you cannot sign in to your Microsoft Account or you're experiencing a sign-in loop.

LOG IN POP UP IS "MISSING"

If you do not see the Xbox Live log in pop-up:

  • Press the ALT TAB keys to switch between application-level windows
  • Select the sign-in pop-up and enter your credentials

CLEAR THE CACHE AND COOKIES OF YOUR WEB BROWSER

A web page opens when you click 'sign in'. If nothing happens or if the wrong information is cached, clear your browser's cache and cookies to delete website settings such as usernames and passwords.

Please refer to your web browser's FAQ for detailed instructions.

CLEAR THE STEAM WEB BROWSER CACHE

If you are playing on Steam, clear the web browser cache as well.

  • Open Steam.
  • In the top menu, click on Steam > Settings
  • Go to the ‘Web Browser’ tab
  • Click the ‘Delete web browser cache’ and 'Delete all browser cookies' buttons.

UPDATE YOUR MICROSOFT ACCOUNT PASSWORD

Change the password of your account.

  1. Close Microsoft Flight Simulator
  2. Select the Start button > Settings Email & Accounts
  3. Under Accounts used by other apps, find the Microsoft account you used to sign in to the sim
  4. Click on Manage

  6. Click on Change password and follow the instructions to update your password
  7. Launch Microsoft Flight Simulator
  8. Because you have updated your password, you will be prompted to sign in to Xbox Live the next time you launch the sim.
  9. Enter your email address and new password.

XBOX LIVE OUTAGE

Intermittent connectivity issues with Xbox Live can cause this issue. To check Xbox Live Status, click here.

If you see any alerts, wait until the service is up and running and then try again.

CHECKLIST

If there is no Xbox Live outage, work through the Loading issues - Checklist before continuing, to ensure that no essential updates are waiting to install.

XBOX SERVICES

Make sure the Xbox Services are running automatically.

  • In the Windows search bar, type "Services"
  • Select "Services"
  • Scroll down to the bottom. Double-click on each entry for Xbox and make sure none of those services are disabled or set to manual. Set everything to "Automatic".

INSTALL THE XBOX APP

If you have purchased Microsoft Flight Simulator via the Microsoft Store or you redeemed the code on your Microsoft account, install the Xbox App. (If you have the Steam version, skip this step)

  • Launch Microsoft Flight Simulator from the Xbox app instead of the tray or the Microsoft store.

If you are still unable to connect to Xbox Live after installing the Xbox App, work your way through the steps below.

XBOX IDENTITY PROVIDER

Install Xbox Identity Provider, a system app that enables PC games to connect to Xbox Live.

CLEAR THE LOCAL XBOX IDENTITY DATA

  • In the file explorer, navigate to the following folder: C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.XboxIdentityProvider_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\TokenBroker
  • Delete the Accounts and Cache folders
  • Reboot your computer
  • Launch the Xbox app

CAN'T TYPE  AT-SIGN '@'

There is a known issue on Windows 10|11 that causes the "Alt-Gr" key on the keyboard to stop working. If the Alt Gr key is not working, you will have problems accessing certain characters in some languages.

  • Press the 'ALT' key and type "64" on the number pad to type the "@" symbol manually.
  • Copy-paste the @ sign
  • Close the Remote Desktop or Virtual Desktop before launching Microsoft  Flight Simulator
  • Disabling Hyper-V from the Windows Features.
