"Oops the software powering this discussion forum encountered an unexpected problem" error message

The "Oops" error message appears when you attempt to sign up or log in to the forums and are in one of the following situations:

 

WRONG WINDOWS PROFILE OR OUTDATED INFORMATION

  • You have changed/updated your gamertag
  • You have changed/updated the email address of your Microsoft account.
    • Troubleshooting:
      • Remove the account used by apps and try again. 
        • Select the Start button > Settings Accounts > Email & Accounts
        • Find the Microsoft account you used to sign in to the forums
        • Select Remove.
        • Go to https://forums.flightsimulator.com/
        • Sign in/log in with the Microsoft account you just removed to refresh the information.

 

  • You're on the wrong Windows User profile
    • Solution:
      • If you have more than one Microsoft account and/or you purchased Microsoft Flight Simulator with a different address than your main Windows 10 account, we recommend adding a Windows 10 user profile for the account used to purchase the game. To add or remove Windows 10 user profile on your PC, follow the steps detailed in this article:  Add or remove accounts on your PC

 

CREDENTIALS DON'T EXIST ANYMORE 

  • You have deleted the forum account and are trying to create a new forum account with the same email address and or Gamertag. 
  • The system deleted incorrect credentials (address with a typo, etc...)

We have confirmed with the web development team that there is currently no workaround and you cannot sign up to the forums at this time. 

 

Solution: Join our official Discord channel instead.

 

THE ACCOUNT IS NOT AUTHORIZED

  • You're trying to sign up with your "workplace or school" account instead of a "personal" account. 
    • Solution:
      • If prompted to choose between your "workplace or school" account or "personal" account using the same email address, select "personal" use.
  • You are a minor. 
    • Solution:
      • We appreciate you trying to sign up, but for security and privacy reasons, you can only sign up if you're 18 years of age or older.

 

YOU HAVEN'T ACTIVATED YOUR GAMERTAG YET

If you're a new user, you may have a Microsoft Account without an Xbox account (Gamertag) yet

  • Solution:
    • Go to Xbox.com, log in with your Microsoft Account credentials and activate the Gamertag.

 

YOU DID NOT AGREE TO THE TERMS OF USE

If you get to the point where you must consent to the Microsoft terms of use and you say NO.

  • Solution:
    • Go to Xbox.com to activate your account and agree to the Microsoft terms of use on that account.

 

YOUR XBOX LIVE ACCOUNT IS BANNED

You have been banned from Xbox Live.

  • Solution:
